This project is a deconstruction of the Balenciaga “Baby Doll” dress mixed with the motorcycle jacket archetype through the lens of the Goth Subculture in the 1980s. The motorcycle jacket was originally designed for practicality and protection from the elements. After repeated depiction of the motorcycle jacket in Hollywood as the clothing of rebellious youth, this archetype gained popularity among many different subcultures. In the 1980s, the goth subculture used the motorcycle jacket as a staple in their style. Designed for movement, this jacket has been involved in many different kinds of movement. This project focuses on movement and volumes that Balenciaga revolutionized through his methods of construction.
