EQUALLY YOKED

The peasant shirt was worn by those working difficult jobs, often in the agricultural industry. These people were constantly carrying things on their backs and in art are rarely depicted standing upright. This strength of the shoulders and back inspired me to look at the method of carrying that is the yoke. Often used on livestock, the yoke was also used by people to carry things like milk across the distance of the land. By using the wide silhouette that the human yoke creates it imitates the strong shoulders of the peasants who originally wore this style of shirt.
